PRESS RELEASE
 

The Sixteenth Annual Memorial Service and Candle Lighting Ceremony Sponsored by the A.F. Almeida & Son Funeral Home of Fall River and the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home of Tiverton, RI was held on Memorial Day, Monday evening, May 31st, 2007 at McGovern’s Restaurant.

Deborah Anne Almeida, Funeral Director coordinated the event and served As Mistress of Ceremonies for the event. Speakers were the Rev. Jay Finelli, Pastor of Holy Ghost Church in Tiverton and Pastor Joseph Biddle of the Calvary Temple, Assembly of God in Fall River.

A Candle Blessing was performed by the clergy and assisted by Sister Judith Costa, Grief Group Facilitator. Deborah Anne Almeida lit the first candle in memory of her Father, Alfred F. Almeida Sr., Founder of the Almeida and Pocasset Memorial Funeral Homes. The candles were then lit by the family members in memory of the deceased.

Soloist was Melissa Murphy and her accompanist on the piano was Del Domingos.

Deborah Anne Almeida also recognized Mrs. Dorothea Almeida Co-Founder Of the Funeral Homes.

The remembrance candles were given to the Families and refreshments were served at the conclusion of the evening.

Judith Costa is a Sister of Saint Dorothy. She has a BA in education from Providence College and a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Ministry from the School of Theology at Seton Hall University. She holds certifications in both Thanatology and Pastoral Counseling.
