Omer D. Harrison 95, of Tiverton, RI and Fall River, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday May 24, 2012 at Southpointe Nursing Home. He was the husband of Genevieve J. (Morrow) Harrison. Born in Fall River on May 28, 1916 he was the son of the late Sarah (Gelinas) and Hormidas Harrison. Omer attended Notre Dame School and was a Graduate of Bristol County Agricultural School. A Horticulturist, he was a Man who loved plants and flowers and was famous for his rhododendrons and was a founding member of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society. Hundreds of people traveled from all over the Northeast to visit the Dickinson St property to see the acre-and-a-quarter of Rhododendrons, azaleas, hydrangeas and other plants that he cultivated for over 25 years. He had worked for the City of Fall River as a Foreman for the Parks Department, for 30 years. In addition he was Superintendent of Notre Dame Cemetery and had also worked as a Caretaker at Jesus Mary Academy from 1947-1972. He also had a passion for Operating Ham Radios and had friends around the world. He dedicated his life to his family, his friends and his flowers. Omer loved good food and was especially fond of the seafood at Lepage's Seafood Restaurant in Fall River . Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter Judith Harrison and her partner Priscilla Harrison Bates of Tiverton, a sister Alice Harrison Roy of Warwick, RI and her husband Fred, a brother Albert Harrison of New York and his wife Arlene and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his dear friends Mike Neronha and his mother Barbara Neronha, Charlotte Coutinho & her husband Donald of Acushnet, Theresa Carlow, SND and his loving caretakers. He was the brother of the late Cora Phenix, Leo Harrison, Joseph A. Harrison and Raymond Harrison. Visitation FRIDAY 5-8 PM. His Funeral will be held SATURDAY at 9am from the POCASSET MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME 462 Main Rd, Tiverton, RI wih a 10am Mass at Holy Trinity Church, Fall River.
