Obituary

Alice Raposa, 96, of Tiverton, RI, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at home, on Aug 29, 2026. Towards the later part of her life, when extra support was needed, she transitioned to living with her daughters, Mary and then Linda. Both provided impeccable care for their mother.

Alice was born on October 25, 1929 in Fall River, MA  to the late Anna & John Duarte, Sr.  Alice was the oldest of three children and always spoke fondly of her late brother John Duarte, Jr. (wife Jacqueline) and her brother Eugene Duarte (late wife Dolores).

She was the beloved wife of the late John P. Raposa for over 40 years. When he passed away in 1999, she always said "he was the only man for me" and looked forward to seeing him again in the Kingdom of Heaven.

She was a devoted, affectionate mother to Alice, Mary, Nancy, Susan, Linda, Peter, Katherine, and Caryn.  She always relied on her faith and the support of her family.  Children were the hallmark of Alice's life.

Alice was a cherished grandmother to Jean, Emily, Carol, Renee, Faith, Ellen, Ryan, Maegan, Philip, Katelyn, Mason, Lucas, Matthew, and Audrey. She was also the proud great-grandmother to Elyse, Ethan, Seth, Shane, Jaqueline, Hannah, Jameson, Elliott, William, Harrison, Charlie, Lily, Claire, Emma, Jaela, Ezekiel, and Viviana. She spent  countless hours with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years and was famous for her 'wet kisses.'

While raising her children in Fall River, MA  and then Tiverton, RI, Alice enjoyed baking, dancing, reading, word searches, Sudoku, Skip-Bo, and sitting in the sun.  She participated in a Sunday night bowling league for many years. She also enjoyed time with her late brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph and Helen (Marge) Raposa Jr. and Franklin and Lorraine Raposa. As time passed, she enjoyed watching and listening to birds, especially red cardinals. She also loved to regularly share her stories and memories of the past with family and friends.

In her younger years, Alice was a tremendous hostess. Whether it was Christmas Eve or New Year's Day, there was always a delicious spread and a home filled with laughter. When her children were younger, she enjoyed spending summers at their cottage in Portsmouth, RI. Later in life, she spent winters at their condo in Naples, FL.

Over the course of her marriage, Alice travelled frequently with her husband, visiting many different countries by plane and cruise ship. Alice loved to go shopping for clothes and worked at Simply Sportswear in Fall River, MA.

She eventually moved to the first ever 55 and older community in Tiverton, RI. As the very first residents, she was considered the First Lady of Country View Estates, and he, the Mayor.

Alice was always singing, even in her 90's, whether it be a church hymn or Frank Sinatra.  As she aged, she continued to enjoy time with her children sharing countless meals together. Alice loved Seafood Sundays, a tradition she kept for 15 years, at Peter and Kim's home.

Alice relied heavily on her faith and Catholic beliefs, attending mass regularly, most certainly filling a pew with her large, young family. She was a parishioner at St. Williams Church in Fall River, MA, and then St. Christopher's in Tiverton, RI.   Later in life, she was a Eucharistic Minister at the former St. Louis Church in Fall River, MA. For the last 27 years, she was a participating parishioner of St. Theresa Church in Tiverton.  Her final years included watching mass on television and receiving the Eucharist at home. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and love for her family.

She is predeceased by her husband John P. Raposa, her daughter Katherine, her parents, Anna & John Duarte, Sr., and brother John Duarte, Jr. In addition to her family, she leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, her brother Eugene, sister-in-law Jacqueline, and her close friend Muriel.
