Fall River

Obituary

At 6:55 PM on November 24, 2023, we lost Carolyn A Burton, an amazing force of life.

She made everyone she met feel like a cherished friend, and was among the most generous souls to walk this earth.

Born in Fall River on December 17, 1946 to Mary C Burton and Milton T. Burton, both of whom she held in the highest esteem.

She is survived by her 2 daughters: Lisa Sotnick and Sherri L Sotnick, 4 Grandchildren: Carolyn Staley, Dino Loguidice, Maxwell W Sotnick, Zacharie B Sotnick, and 1 great granddaughter, Anastasia Staley – all of whom she loved profoundly and unconditionally. They were everything to her! She would move mountains for each of them as she showed them consistently throughout their lives.

She is survived by her 2 sisters: Beverly A King and Judith J Monte, for whom she had an unwavering love, viewed as precious gifts from her mom, and trusted with her life.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Milton S Burton, "Butch," who she spoke of often with much pride, a great big smile, and a heavy heart from losing him too soon.

She is also survived by 4 nephews, 2 nieces, 4 great nieces, 3 great nephews- all of whom she loved pridefully.

She spoke of her close friends as family, and she cultivated meaningful long-lasting friendships- some of over 50 years. Even many of her real estate clients became life-long friends. She truly had MANY friends all of whom depended on her vivacious spirit at every outing. And she rarely missed one!

She lived life to the fullest and on her own terms. No matter what life threw her way (even the most challenging situation), she made it into a fun adventure. She strongly believed in working hard at what you love, but always fitting in one fun thing every day! This was her motto in life since her teenage years, for which she later coined the acronym FF (fun first). She reminded everyone to do FF!

She was a highly respected businesswoman in Fall River, where she was proud to live and work all her life. In her late twenties, she started selling real estate, and like everything she did, she was also a natural salesperson. It quickly became her passion, and she had MANY real estate achievements throughout her career; just a few highlights:

·         43 years of full-time residential experience

·         Past President Greater Fall River Association of Realtors

·         Realtor of the Year, 1986

·         Top Agent in the USA in 1996

She truly was a dynamo. While selling real estate, she also:

·         Started Carolyn Ann Burton Insurance Agency in 1984, which she ran for 14 years.

·         Ran for Mayor of Fall River in 2011.

·         Was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Council on Aging by the Mayor in 2012.

·         Had her Construction License for building and selling homes.

A few mentions of her early years: as a young mother of two daughters, she:

·         Worked as a seamstress in the Fall River mills.

·         Was a secretary at the Fall River School Dept for district Psychologists and to the Fall River School Committee, 14 Years.

·         Taught Aerobic Dance - 8 years, was a Girl Scout Leader -12 years.

She loved music and was an adult student of piano, and a gifted artist in interior design and drawing/painting.

She was a long-time, active member of Fall River Elks Club and Fall River Country Club.

For donations in her memory, please send to St Jude Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children, UDT-SEAL ASSOCIATION, Navy SEAL foundation. She was a huge supporter of Cancer research and the veterans.
