Charles W
Hemingway
Jan 31, 1934 — Feb 15, 2024
Tiverton
Charles (Chuck) W. Hemingway, Jr. 90 (Just shy of 2 weeks) of Tiverton, RI passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024. He was happily married for 68 years to Mary (Cobery).
Born in Brooklyn, NY January 31, 1934, to Charles W Hemingway and Alberta (Carl) Hemingway. He was a graduate of Bishop Loughlin in Brooklyn NY. After Graduation he enlisted and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict as Quartermaster Third Class on the USS Otterstetter. After completing his tour of duty, he began his career at Raytheon as a Draftsman. Then, proudly, at 52 years old, received his Bachelor's degree from (at the time) Roger Williams College in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Raytheon in 1990. After retiring, his love of driving began when he volunteered for Meals on Wheels (his absolute favorite). This was followed by delivering part-time for East Bay Newspapers and LaCava Auto Parts. He was a member on Knights of Columbus Council #4673 since 1963.
Dad to his son the late Joseph C. Hemingway and survived by his two daughters, Mary Ann Hemingway and Judy Rapoza (late husband Kevin) and his Grandson, Ryan Hemingway of Fall River. Brother to the late Carol (Hemingway) Guilfoyle and nephews Robert Guilfoyle of Lindenhurst, New York and Daniel Guilfoyle of Endwell, New York. As well as several great nieces and nephews and one great, great nephew.
Chuck had a love-hate relationship (mostly love) with his Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and The Patriots. His favorite pass time was golf and playing horseshoes with the guys at the Knights of Columbus. His true passion was bowling at Dudek's Bowling Lanes in Warren, RI.
Chuck was a great self-taught carpenter in his own right. He loved vacation cruises with his beloved wife. His with his love of driving there were many vacations by car or pulling a camper. The ongoing funny story has to be him driving to Stop and Shop for A TOMATO. He would do anything for anyone who asked. He was the sweetest man and will be missed by many, especially his beloved wife and daughters. Sitting on the patio will never be the same.
Calling hours will be Monday, March 4th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Rd, Tiverton. His funeral will be Tuesday, March 5th at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Portsmouth, RI at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to The Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwarriorproject.org)
