JOHN C. GARCIA, 73, passed away on May 9, 2015 at South Pointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Santa Clara, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the proud son of the late Nicolau and Almorinda (Cabral) Garcia.
John was a member of the Laborers Union Local 271 for 48 years, most recently retiring from Catalano construction in Cumberland, RI.
He was a communicant of St. Theresa's Church in Tiverton, RI, a member of the Atenu Luso Americano Association, The Knights of Columbus Third Degree of Tiverton, RI. He was an avid soccer fan of the Benefica soccer league.
John was married to the love of his life, Bertha (Costa) Garcia for 52 years. He enjoyed taking her on numerous cruises and loved visiting his family in Portugal and Canada. He was the loving and generous father of Maria (Garcia) Costa, husband Antonio Costa of Fall River, John Jr., wife Lisa of Somerset, MA, and Paul, his companion Allison of Tiverton. He was the cherished grandfather of Stephanie, Erica, Kyle, Alexis, Kathryn, Jayde and Sydney. He was the proud Godfather to John Viveiros. He was the brother of Maria Corilla Silva, Victor Garcia, Maria Helena Viveiros and Connie Reis. He was the caring uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation THURSDAY from 5-9 PM. His Funeral will be held FRIDAY at 9 am from the A F ALMEIDA & SON FUNERAL HOME 1309 Globe St, Fall River, MA with a 10 am Mass at St. Theresa's Church. Burial at Notre Dame Cemetery. Flowers are welcome. www.almeida-pocasset.com
