John Edward Ponte Jr. passed away peacefully on August 7, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Carmen (Rioux) Ponte. He was the father of the late John Edward Ponte III. He is survived by his sons
Kenneth Ponte and Clifford Ponte, daughters-in-law Deborah Silvia and Denise Ponte, grandchildren Clifford Ponte and Timothy Ponte and several nieces and nephews.
John was born on August 28, 1925 to John Edward Ponte and Mary (Bento) Ponte. He had a sister
Edith (Ponte) Sousa. He grew up in North Tiverton working on his grandfather's farm & attending public schools. In 1941 he volunteered to the US Navy and served as a morse code operator on a L.S.T. ship in the
Pacific Theater. After the war, John studied accounting at Bradford Durfee College. He worked as a manager and supervisor in the textile industry including Berkshire Hathaway and Quaker Fabrics. John married Carmen Rioux in 1950 and they started a family eventually building a house in Tiverton where they lived for the past 48 years.
Those who knew and loved John will remember him for his work ethic, dedication to family, humility and
compassion. His Funeral will be held MONDAY with a 10am Mass at Holy Ghost Church in Tiverton.
Burial at Pocasset Hill. Everyone is kindly asked to meet directly in Church. Arrangements are with the
