Obituary

Lorraine Pontes, 91 passed away November 7, 2021. She was the beloved wife of 59
years to the late Frank Pontes. She is the daughter of Manuel and Irene (Perreira)
Fernandes, and the sister of the late Dennis Fernandes.
Lorraine's biggest pride and joy was her family, daughter Cheryl L. Trask, son Frank
Pontes Jr, and her three granddaughters Jaclyn L. Machado, Beth M. Arraial and
Kimberly A. Leonardo and her five great grandchildren, Kaylee E. Trask, Stephen A.
Leonardo, Logan L. Machado, Jake T. Leonardo and Addison M. Leonardo.
Her passion was music and dancing. She met her husband "Frankie" at the old Lincoln
Park Ballroom where they enjoyed ballroom dancing with many friends. As years went on
their passion was kept alive and passed along to her daughter and grandchildren,
especially granddaughter Kimberly who accompanied them to many local dances along
with so many close friends. Christmastime was always special and festive with caroling
door to door with a gang full of people as we would all say, Frankie would play
instruments and Lorraine would sing, as she had a beautiful voice, and the nickname the
La La Gang became the signature name amongst us all! Together they were so much fun
to be around. It was a complete family affair with everyone's children involved!
She worked most of her life at first in the local garment industry, and then went on to
work for a local card/gift shop where she was manager for many years. She took an early
retirement to help watch over her grandchildren which she immensely enjoyed.
Lorraine was a very kindhearted person with a beautiful soul. She had compassion for
people and was always willing to help in a time of need, especially to offer up prayers for
anyone who asked her to pray for loved ones. Her strength came from her deep faith.
She also loved campaigning for her favorite political candidates making thousands of
phone calls for support and together with her husband holding up signs and waving to all
as they passed by the intersection areas. They had both said that campaigning for Ed
Lambert was one of the best times they had and enjoyed every moment, not to mention
how fond they were of him and made close friends with many others too.
Lorraine will be deeply missed to say the least. There are no words to express the sadness
her family feels at this time. She lived a long full life that she considered complete. She
had the loves of her life, her husband who was always by her side, and her children and
grandchildren that brought her so much pride and joy. The memories will live on forever
in the hearts of her family and friends.
