Paul Marcus Downey's Obituary
Paul Marcus Downey, 55 of Tiverton, RI passed away on June 19th. He was the husband of Elizabeth Maria (DeSousa) Downey. Born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Renate (Gauck) Downey and the late John Downey. A Registered Nurse, he most recently worked at Faulkner Hospital and had been a long term employee of Southcoast Hospital Group. Paul was a communicant of St Theresa Parish. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by 2 daughters Sarah Elizabeth Downey and Michaela Downey. He also leaves his siblings Karl Downing (Michele), Kevin Downey (Amy), Terry Darling (Reg), Kathleen Downey-Tabol (Mitch), Mary Boyles (Ray) and Michael Downey (Ashley). He was the brother of the late John Downey.
In addition, he leaves his father-in-law Manuel DeSousa (Lucy), brother-in-law Paul DeSousa and his sister-in-law Christine Medeiros (Fred). He also leaves several nieces and nephews, along with his former wife Rae Lee. He was a member of AA. Paul was a devoted father and husband who dedicated his life to helping others . He was a former employee of CMH, where he took care of the sick and their families in the ICU. He was a loyal friend, uncle, brother, son, father and husband who should be remembered for the wonderful man he was, for his smile, his gentle spirit, his quirky sense of humor ( which he got from his father), his kind heart and always putting others ahead of himself, and not the illness that he succumbed too. In his past time he enjoyed bowling, fishing and camping with his daughters, singing, music, hiking , biking and photography. He was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9am from the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home 462 Main Rd, Tiverton, RI with a Mass at St Theresa Church on Stafford Rd, Tiverton at 10 am.
