RICHARD DAVID HART –
Died peacefully at home, Monday, October 5, 2020. Born in Fall River, he was brought home to a newly built house on family heirloom property. His mother was a WW1 nurse and the first town nurse for Tiverton and his father was a poultry-man who eventually retired as the Chief of Police in Tiverton. Occasionally, he worked on a fishing gang, went tonging and hunting. After schooling in Tiverton and Little Compton, he attended URI for a General Agricultural degree in 1952. During college, he was involved with the Naval ROTC. He was drafted for the next two years in an Army chemicals division, doing agricultural research with herbicides. Later, he went to Purdue University for a Master of Science in Plant Physiology in 1956. He married in 1957 to Isobel Jean ("I.J.") and worked at Amchem, in Ambler, PA, earning a patent for his efforts. In 1970, he moved back to Tiverton with his wife and 2 children, Vicky and Wendy. He became active in town business; he became a town councilman and acted on several boards and committees, including Planning, Streets, and Landfill.
He also leaves a granddaughter Rebecca Elizabeth Turcotte
.
For fun he liked little projects raising corn
, geese and rare chickens-all with experimental value in mind.
From teen-aged years working on a vegetable farm, to years helping on a potato farm, he was most happy with his blueberries, raspberries, currants, gooseberries, and apples. He was known for his small fruit stand.
