Obituary

Richard Philippe Paquin, 91, of Tiverton, RI passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 4th.

Born in Fall River, MA, Richard grew up in Warren, RI, the son of the late Victor and Blanche (Lariviere) Paquin. He attended LaSalette Seminary for high school and one year at Providence College. After proudly serving his country as an Army Corporal during the Korean war, Richard became a carpenter and owned his own contracting company. In 1963, he began selling insurance door-to-door in the evenings, eventually quitting contracting to establish the Paquin Insurance Agency.  In the 1960s, Richard served on the Tiverton Town Council including several years as President.

In 1956, Richard married the love of his life, the late Lena (Almeida) Paquin, together raising three children. They loved to travel, especially to their 'happy place' – Aruba. Richard was always active, whether it was downhill skiing, playing tennis well into his 80s, or power-walking on Main Road. He taught his children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews to ski and loved playing tennis with his grandchildren.

Later in life, he discovered gardening and spent his summers cultivating an enormous garden, sharing the fruits of his labor with the neighborhood. He loved all sports but the Red Sox were his favorite. He loved going to the casino, right up until the end. But his biggest love was his annual 4th of July cookout and fireworks. If you went once, Richard told you that you had to come back every year…and he meant it. He loved seeing his yard filled with family and friends.

Richard is survived by his children Gregory Paquin (partner Sandy Voboril), Richard B. Paquin (wife Lisa), and Melanie Lima (husband Jeffrey). In addition, he leaves his greatest joys, his grandchildren Nicolas (wife Alyssa), Madison, and Macy Paquin, and Jane Anne and Matthew Lima, and his great-granddaughter, Olyvia Paquin. He is also survived by his sister Anne Marie Pianka (husband Edward). He was the brother of the late Dr. Normand Paquin, Gabrielle Hanley, Monique Paquin, and Simonne Paquin.
